Workplace values are the guiding principles that are most important to me about the way that I work. I use these deeply held principles to choose between right and wrong ways of working and they help make important decisions and career choices. Some values I personally developed at the my workplace may include-
- Being completely honest
- Making a difference
- Being a great team member
- Respecting company’s polices and rules
- Respecting others
- Focusing on details
- Being accountable
Before understanding the values at workplace, i needed to understand my own personal values. Once i had understood the values that are important to me, it was easy to identify values that are important at workplace. By talking to team members and team manager, i tried identify the values significant at work.
The first thing which is required at every workplace is the honesty. Honesty is something which i have learnt as a child and have always tried being honest even when i was a student at university level and at my each workplace in my career in the past. The value of accountability is the willingness to take responsibility for one’s own actions. When i think i will be accountable for a specific task, i do that task very carefully and that is the reason i chose accountability as one of my workplace values.
I believe that there is a correlation between the manner in which we work and the principles ascribe, it is undeniable that we are inextricably impacted by our respective familial upbringings, social environments and academic influences.
To understand the organization’s values, I talk to my team members, or simply study their behavior. Also, reading all the articles and emails which include company’s policies and regulations.
